Parks and Recreation Meeting
February 16, 2000

Attending:  Bob Cifone, Les Bair, Dan Dixon, Kathy McDevitt, Michael Pillagalli, Joe Waters

Meeting was called to Order: 7:10 PM by Chairman Dan Dixon

After review of the minutes submitted for the January 19, 2000 meeting, a motion was made by Joe Waters to accept the minutes as submitted with changes. The motion was second by Bob Cifone and passed.

The Financial Report dated January 19, 2000 was reviewed.  There was no questions or comments pertaining to the Financial Report.

Parks: Kent Wise reported that crews were working on their winter equipment maintenance process.  The crew is preparing the parks for Spring.

The Weeping Beech Tree is falling in disrepair.  It is recommended that a representative of the township contacts the company and brings it to their attention.

Recreation: Al Roth stated the start date for summer program will be June 19, 2000. This is subject to change if we have any major snow storm that would close the schools. Bob Cifone will represent the board and attend the Parents orientation meeting. Interviews will take place March 7, 14, and 28th at 4 PM in the Township building. Park and Recreation registration will be held May 13 and May 20th at the Township.  A framed Weeping Beech Tree picture will be donated by Les Bair to the Fernwood School for the annual auction.

Fees for the Summer Recreation Program were approved.  The Motion was made by Joe Waters and second by Kathy McDevitt.

Friends of the ParkKelly Cifone reported that all the bus trips have been a great success and the Beauty and the Beast trip is booked.  Faulkner has offered to do a 50/50 fundraiser on Friday, April 14th, 2000 at the Cruise night.  The down payment has been paid for the Gazebo. Kelly continues to raise funds for the Concert series and Community Day. The Friends will be using a soda cart at Community Day instead of cans.   Friends continue to do an outstanding job in supporting our parks.

Old Business: Picnic prices as reported in the minutes of January 19, 2000 were passed by motion of Joe Waters and second by Kathy McDevitt.

Bus trip is full for Beauty and the Beast.

Summer concert series is scheduled with the following entertainment: Black Thorns, July 30, Making Music, June 16, County Joe, Classical Strings for children, City Rhythm and a Motown Band to be selected.

John Leary will continue with the concession stand until further notice.  He will cooperate with the friends on the soda sales.

Easter Egg hunt is Saturday, April 15th, and the rain date is April 22nd.  Doreen Conant of the park crew has volunteered to fill the Easter Bunny costume replacing long time bunny volunteer, Dan Dixon.

New Business: Contact person, Kim Circe of 815 Shadow Farm Road, West Chester, PA 19380 (610-344-7988) and members of  USTA Tennis Team requested specific use of the courts on Friday morning from 9 to 12 AM for approximately 7 home games. After much discussion it was decided to form a subcommittee with Bob Cifone, Joe Waters and Kathy McDevitt.

Middle School Children's Art will be presented for an Art Show at the Township building.

Tracey McDevitt reported on the MS Run Walk to be held Sunday, April 30, 2000.  The band Lunch Box Hero's will be playing at the finish line. Sponsors are on board and literature will be ready the week of March 13, 2000.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:32 PM.  The next meeting is scheduled for March 15th at 7 PM.
