West Goshen Township Park and Recreation Board Meeting May 16, 2001 Minutes
Park Board Members: Dan Dixon, Bob Cifone, Mike Pillagalli, Jennifer Grey-Rice, and Joe Waters
Township Representatives: Ken Lehr, Kent Wise, Al Roth, Kathy Hahn
Friends of the Park: Kelly Cifone, Peggy Niemeyer
Meeting called to Order: 7:05 by Chairman Dan Dixon
After a review of the minutes submitted for the April meeting, a motion was made by Mike Pillagalli to accept the minutes as submitted. The motion was second by Joe Waters and passed.
The Financial Report was reviewed. Mike Pillagalli noted that the outstanding balance was now over one million dollars.
Chairman Dixon announced that Bob Cifone had to been appointed to replace Joe Waters for the Park Board. Joe Waters will serve as the alternate in replacing Bob Cifone in that role. Joe Waters noted that
he was positive that Bob would be a tremendous asset serving full-time on the Board and wished him well.
Parks:
Kent Wise reported they were cutting grass everyday until this week. Due to the shortage of rainfall, cutting has been temporarily halted. Advance Horticultural was contracted for weed control and fertilization. Flowerbeds were being mulched while the grass cutting was halted. A broken water line was replaced in Community Park. Two summer employees have been hired and they will start on 6/15. Weekend picnics start this weekend coming and there have been daytime picnics during the weeks at most of the parks.
Recreation:
Al Roth thanked those who worked to make registration the success that is. Community Park had 105 kids registered, Barker Park had 85 registered and Coopersmith Park had 50 kids registered. There is another registration for this Saturday coming (5/19). Staff orientation is slated for a full day on 6/9.
Friends of the Park:
Kelly Cifone reported that all is well and she is continuing working on fund-raising for the Summer Concert Series. Kelly also reported that there are two bus trips scheduled for Radio City Music Hall in the fall.
Old Business:
The MS Run earned more donations than in any previous year. It was a successful day and all participants enjoyed the Community Park setting.
The Bicycle Safety Program sponsored by the VFW is asking for volunteers. The date of the event is 6/2
Community Day meeting is scheduled for 6/9
New Business:
The Phillies game at Camden Yards is very close to selling out. Ken Lehr reported there would be three busses leaving on 7/8.
The Summer concert series begins on 6/17 with Makin Music performing in the Amphitheater.
Harvest Day Meeting will be called by Mike Pillagalli as the event draws near. Harvest Day will be 10/21 this year.
